Hi there fellow Frizzbee huckers, hammerheads, and chicken wingers,

Season 33 is in the books. What a year! We've had some big attendance records broken in the last few years, but this year tops them all.

What are the new records set this year? Perhaps it is better to list the records that were not broken:

1.    We did NOT set the record for the earliest or latest season opener (and didn't even come close).

2.    We did NOT set the record for the earliest or latest season closer.

3.    We did NOT set the record for most new players (but we came close).

That's about it! Well, OK, we didn't set the record for most rainouts or fewest players or relatively meaningless records that the statistician sort of keeps track of. And many individual records still stand, like Biller's unbreakable streak of 54 straight games. But we broke most of the overall records.

Before I explain all of the many new records, for those who missed the most excellent season-ending party hosted by Eric and LeighAnn, I offer the following 'impossible' quiz. If you haven't taken it, try it out. You start with 100 points, and subtract one point for each number that differs from the actual answer below. I bet you can't do it without cheating, although some got close at the party.

Overall records set this year:

1.    Highest average players per game: 22.8

       a.  The previous high was 20.1, set in 2013.

2.    Most player appearances: 639

       a.  The previous high was 536, set in 2014.

3.    Most players in a game (and second most): 37 and 36

       a.  The previous high was 34, set in 2013.

       b.  Previously, we've had 6 games with 30 or more players in our history.
            This year, we had had more than 30 players 3 times.

4.    Most games with 20 or players: 22

       a.  The previous high was 12, set in 2013 and tied in 2014.

5.    Most players: 111

       a.  The previous high was 97, set in 2014.

6.    Most games in a season: 28

       a.  The previous high was 27, set in 2000 and tied 4 times in 2006, 2007, 2012, and 2014.

7.    Consecutive games without a rainout: 40 (and still going!)

       a.  The previous high was 24, set in 2013.

8.    Most super-regular players with 20 or more games: 10
       (Dale, Bill, Bob, Pete, Kevin, Jeff N, Richard, Eric, and Dave).
       Not to mention 4 more players with 19 games!

       a.  The previous high was 8, set in 2013.

9.    Tie for most number of players with 10 or more games in a row: 7
       (Dale, Bill, Bob, Pete, Kevin, Nate, Jeff A).

       a.  The record was first set in 2012.

10.   [unofficial] I'm pretty sure that we had a record number of photos taken this year!

Honorable mention:

1.    Tie for second-most number of regular players (5 or more games): 30

       a.  The record is 32, set in 2013.

2.    Tie for second-most number of regular players: 46

       a.  The record is 61, set in 2013.

       b.  In the last 4 years, we've had 194 new players.

Individual records set this year:

1.    Oldest regular player: Dave (of course!)

       a.  He broke his own record that he set 3 years ago and has broken every year since.

2.    Youngest competitive player: Nick R, 9 years old

       a.  He broke Jared's record of 10 years old

Honorable mention:

1.    Dale's 25 games ties many previous players for second highest number of games in a season.

       a.  Pete and Bill each played 26 (Bill did it twice).

2.    Bob's streak of 20 straight games to start the season is 4^th highest.

       a.  Kevin F holds the record of 24, with Bill at 23 and 21.

3.    Pete added 4 games this year to his streak of 21 straight games at the end of last season;
      his multi-year streak of 25 is 4^th highest.

       a.  Bill (of course) holds the record of 54, with Pete at 36 and Kevin and Bill with 26.

Super-consistent players (new):

We have full statistics for the last 21 years (plus 3 of the early years). Sifting through this history, we see that there are a relatively small number of super-consistent players. We already have definitions for "regular" players (5 or more games) and super-regular players (20 or more games) for a single season. To be a super-consistent player:

1. You must currently be a regular player. Sorry, all you consistent players in the past. This category is not for you.
2. You must average at least 10 games a year for each year that you've played. It's not named "super-consistent" for nothing!
3. You must have played at least 100 games. This is no lightweight category!

Last year, there were just 9 members of this group: Bill, Dale, Bob, Roger, Dave, Eric, Jeff A, Richard, and Pete. This year, Elliot joined by playing in his 100^th game (and he was a super-regular player this year for the first time). Next year, Kurt and Tinu are likely to join, and possibly Kevin F if he has a big year. But watch out: you can drop out of this group rather quickly if you don't continue to be a regular player.

(Dave suggested an iron-man category for those of us who have played 20+ games for at least 5 years in a row. But only 2 players have ever done this. Perhaps 2 more by next year. Stay tuned!)
