NO SEABROOK BEACH GAME THIS WEEK! 🙁
A high of 65 and 70% chance of rain is not worth the drive to Seabrook.
Next game will be Tuesday, June 17th, at the Tewksbury field.
Merrimack Valley Ultimate – Season 42 of Tuesday Evening Pickup
A high of 65 and 70% chance of rain is not worth the drive to Seabrook.
Next game will be Tuesday, June 17th, at the Tewksbury field.
We double up this week!
Tuesday June 10th: Regular game at the Tewksbury field at 6:00.
Friday June 13th: Seabrook Beach at 6:30
IMPORTANT NOTES FOR SEABROOK BEACH:
Last Tuesday’s MVP goes to us all for our “Spirit of the Game”. We rarely play with 8 on a team on our humble field. But it worked! I think it even improved play by making teams work the disc up the field instead of simply hucking it end-to-end to the star athlete in the endzone (now that that is no longer me). 🙂
See you all Tuesday at the Tewksbury field at 6:00, and, again on Friday at Seabrook Beach at 6:30.
Early forecasts are favorable. Yay!
Last week’s MVP goes to Ken, one of our summer interns. He played a solid game with a lot of beyond-routine catches. Many were layouts in the endzone.
I occasionally get asked for someone’s email address. For those of you on the email list, you can get the address list yourself via a couple methods. There is many other options you can play with, too. Most of these get you to the same spot (you need your password. You can ask to have it sent to you):
You can get the list and adjust options via email, too. You must SEND USING ASCII or TEXT-ONLY MODE. Send an email from your address which is on the list. Send the email to:
all-request@frizzbee.com
In the body (or the subject) put 1 or more of these:
who <your-password> — emails you the email address list
set show — see your list membership options
set help — help for the set command
password — sends you your password
password — change your password
help — sends you the list of commands
unsubscribe — I don’t know why you’d need this
end — to stop processing commands in case you send a “signature”
Have fun! See you in Tewksbury, Tuesday June 3rd at 6:00.
I’ve seen better forecasts, but, we still have the odds on our side. Watch the radar around 6:00 to see if any rain does pop up. I expect we can get some play in.
Remember, Monday is a Holiday. Don’t forget your gear on Tuesday!
Catch of the day goes to Ashley! She was open in the endzone, but, not for long. Jeff sped in to make the block. He made it into position in time as he all too often does. Those on Ashley’s team began to sigh as Jeff totally, totally eclipsed Ashley who was lost in his hulking shadow. Then Jeff did something unusual for himself. He duffed the block. After he hit it, the disc somehow flopped up over his shoulder and fluttered right down into Ashley’s hands. Ashley was paying attention and made the point! And Dad caught it all in photos. Oh, wait, he didn’t! I’d say “Poorest timing of the night” goes to Eric 🙂
Special mention goes to Kit for another spectacular layout. This one in the endzone.
See you all Tuesday May 27th, in Tewksbury, at 6:00.
Our muscles need water, so, this wet spell is good for us. Right?
We’ve had a few muscle cramps over the last few games. They are no fun, because it stops play. So, here’s some tips on avoiding cramps.
If you get a cramp, quickly stretch it out, or, let one of us players stretch it out. This usually stops the cramp. Then, let the muscle rest while you message it and stretch it.
The oddest cramp remedy I came across is ingesting a tablespoon of mustard. I think it is a preventative measure just by imagining it.
See you all Tuesday, May 20th at the Tewksbury field at 6:00.
The weather is warming. Its called spring. Spring is also code for rain. Watch the rain clouds for the gaps that we will play our game in.
Again, picked from all the “best play of the week” submissions:
After Bob’s non-pinnie team scored, Bob barked out the instructions for defensively covering the other team and to play hard. To show his team mates he was serious, after the initial huck, Bob raced up the field, and the first pass from the pinnies was to JJ. Bob just kept running and running hard. He knocked down the pass to JJ, and, we all were amazed.
Although Bob earned “Best play of the week”, JJ got revenge during the game-to-5. With the score 4 to 3 in favor of the pinnies, JJ was able to throw the winning touchdown pass to the ‘Old Timer’ in the end zone for a 5 to 3 win by the pinnies!
See you all Tuesday, May 13th at the Tewksbury field at 6:00.
It will be much warmer than last week (I can say that without looking at the forecast).
Randomly picked from the 40 submissions for “play of the week”, we have the “wind hopper” which turned into the “Elliot hopper”. Dale was throwing a pass to Tinu in the endzone (sounds like a cliche). It was a windy day. Wow, was it a windy day. So, Dale’s pass was hopping up and down as it made its way to Tinu. Underneath the disc was Elliot trying to time his hops to block the disc in one of its low spots. Our statistician will note that there was a “high degree of correlation” between the disc’s altitude and Elliot’s leaps. In layman’s terms, Elliot did not block the disc, Tinu pulled it in, and the rest of us stuck our hands in our pockets to keep them warm.
See you at the field, Tuesday May 6th at 6:00
We are off to a good season start. Tuesday evening will be cool and dry.
See you at the Tewksbury field, Tuesday, April 29th at 6:00.
We are underway with season 32!
Remember your $12.25 yearly fee which indirectly pays for our field. Yes, there will be waivers. The new waivers have less to fill in, but, more on concussion warnings which you don’t have to read if you wear your helmet.
Looks like good weather. See you at the Tewksbury field at 6:00 on Tuesday.
