Summer weather in Tewksbury, Tuesday, Aug 27th

Should be a nice evening in Tewksbury, Tuesday, August 27th at 6:00.

A couple notes as we head into fall..

I’ll be hitting people up for signing the 2013 waiver and paying the $10 yearly fee that gets us the field.

If we have enough people wanting to squeeze in one last beach night, it is possible on Tuesday, Sept. 3rd.  We would have to start early to beat the sunset.  It will take a chunk of people to be vocal to make this happen.

The college kids are headed back to their resorts, so, the number of subs should reduce to “just right”.  Still, every so often, it’s good to remind ourselves that we play a very social, non-competitive game of Ultimate.  The idea is to have everyone involved in the game, regardless of ability.  That’s a big reason why we don’t even keep score until the very end.

With that in mind, there are a couple of things that we can all do to keep the game more fun for all:

  1. Substitute frequently, even if you’re not tired, if there are folks on the sidelines waiting to play.  This act of generosity will then apply to you when you’re waiting to play.
  2. Spread your throws around, focusing on shorter throws.  Long throws are certainly fun, but short throws involve more of your teammates and are therefore much more fun overall.  Besides, those long throws often are incomplete and therefore counterproductive in more ways than one.  So choose short throws whenever possible, and watch how much easier it is to score and most importantly, how fun it is for everyone.

See you at the Tewksbury field on Tuesday, August 27th, at 6:00.

Seabrook Beach this Tuesday, July 23rd

Summertime is beach time. We’ve had a perfect beach season so far. This Tuesday looks like another great day.

See you at Seabrook Beach, Tuesday, July 23rd at 6:15.

P.S. I’m away for the following 2 Tuesdays, so, someone needs to deal with the pinnies and cones after the game.

Beach Party this Saturday, July 13th

The weather cannot stop us this time. We are on for our Beach Party this Saturday from noon ’till after fireworks. Yes fireworks. A bunch have kicked in to purchase 100s of dollars of fireworks (there may be a “Fireworks Donation” bucket to distribute the costs).

Come dressed to get wet. We’ll have the usual volleyball, badminton, horseshoes, pole-ish horseshoes, swimming, float rings, kayaks, canoes, trampolines, and zip line. Beaver Brook has plenty of water in it for a beautiful mile paddle. Bring your guitar or other instruments as there will be some music to be made.. even a full organized band might be showing up. Make yourself at home and let’s have some fun!

As for food and drink, we’ll have the grill going with burgers and dogs. We bottled a fresh batch of beer 2 Fridays ago and I’ll have some backup regular beer as well as bottled water and sodas, ice, etc. I don’t provide any salads, fruit, snacks, or desserts. Feel free to contribute to round out the menu, so that we have a scrumptious buffet.

We may be short a few chairs, so, having a “soccer” chair in your trunk may be wise. Some like to wear “water shoes” when in ponds. Some like bug spray for the rare flying bug. Wait, it’s rained for the past 2 weeks. Expect mosquitos at dusk.

Tewksbury this Tuesday, July 2nd

Watch the weather radar. There are a lot of straggling rain clouds which summer needs to kick out.

A reminder that the Anker’s Beach Party has been moved to Saturday, July 13th. Some folks have started a collection to purchase some heavy duty fireworks. I’m sure Curt will volunteer to light them off while going down the zip line.

See you Tuesday, July 2nd at the Tewksbury field at 6:00.
