Next game, Tuesday May 20th

Our muscles need water, so, this wet spell is good for us. Right?

We’ve had a few muscle cramps over the last few games. They are no fun, because it stops play. So, here’s some tips on avoiding cramps.

  • Stay hydrated (even coffee and colas help, and, of coarse, beer)
  • Keep your muscles stretched, but, don’t over stretch (especially when your muscles are cool)
  • Keep your muscles warm (cold can trigger a spasm, so, wear sweats. We weren’t looking at your legs anyway)
  • Don’t be lacking electrolytes, potassium, calcium, magnesium, etc.
  • Be aware of your own medical conditions which leave you more prone to cramps (they are odd things. see web)
  • Be aware of your own medicines which leave you more prone to cramps (anti-psychotics, birth control pills, diuretics, statins, steroids, etc.)

If you get a cramp, quickly stretch it out, or, let one of us players stretch it out. This usually stops the cramp. Then, let the muscle rest while you message it and stretch it.

The oddest cramp remedy I came across is ingesting a tablespoon of mustard. I think it is a preventative measure just by imagining it.

See you all Tuesday, May 20th at the Tewksbury field at 6:00.
