The golfers (diskers?) have it.
See you at Muldoon Park in Pelham NH at 6pm Tuesday July 14th
Merrimack Valley Ultimate – Season 42 of Tuesday Evening Pickup
The golfers (diskers?) have it.
See you at Muldoon Park in Pelham NH at 6pm Tuesday July 14th
First off, we have enough players for the alternating Tuesdays, “Low Tide Tuesdays”, to play at Seabrook Beach. The public parking lot was still closed as of last Tuesday, however, there were a few establishments, which are closed on Tuesday evenings, near the Hooksett Road intersection where we all parked. Markeys closes at 8pm, so, we started ultimate at 5:30. I promise less wind at the beach for the remainder of the summer. Whew!
We have all the approvals to use the Tewksbury field! I don’t know if we have the numbers for a game. Please respond if you are part of the “in” crowd. If there are not enough for a game, we will be at the Disc Golf course at Muldoon Park in Pelham, NH (just across the border). We play with our regular ultimate discs. We play with the same spirit that characterizes our MVUF Ultimate.. we are there for a fun and social time. We don’t keep score. It is really a good time to practice your weaker throws and improve your favorite throws and gossip about the people who are not there 🙂
Please email either the group or me, bill@ankers.org, if you are up for playing at the Tewksbury field this Tuesday July 14th at 6pm (or Frizzbee Golf for that matter).
Most of the storm will be overnight and pretty much gone by noon on Saturday! Whaahoo!
Here’s a repeat of the details:
Time: Saturday July 11th from 1pm on and on
Place: Ankers Pond which shows up on google maps
52 Chase Rd.
Londonderry, NH 03053
cell: 603-965-6563
Food: I’ll have burgers, dogs, kielbasa, condiments, bottled water, soft drinks, some cheap beer. Others of you bring salads, chips, desserts, and whatever else you fancy.
Setting: There is a half acre swimmable pond. Come to get wet. Some like water shoes. Some like sunscreen and bug spray and a sweatshirt if the night gets cool. W e have a long driveway were people park along and park in the front yard. Many will crash in tents, or, find a bed or other spot in the house or car. Don’t drive if you’ve had too much to drink. There will be pancakes and eggs and coffee in the morning. There is no caterer. If something like tomatoes are missing, they are either in the house’s refrigerator, or, in tupperware under a picnic table (where they stayed one year).
Activities: Swimming, zip-line, volleyball, horse shoes, ping-pong, poleish horseshoes, corn hole. If a game is not set up, just do it. If something needs moved, move it.
Caveat: Bringing your dog doesn’t work because too many people have dogs.
Music: The fantastic Not Fade Away Band cannot make it this year. Bring what you got. It’s open mic. I’ll have the PA, microphones, and my guitar.
OK, we are mostly all working from home. With Markey’s closing at 8pm, we need to skip out of our home office and get to the beach by 5:30. Parking may be touchy. As of 2 weeks ago, the non-resident parking lot was closed. Many have parked in the resident side of the parking lot without issue. I suggest parking in the lots of the closed establishments near the Hookset Rd intersection.
This ultimate game is happening for those that don’t fret playing ultimate at this time.
Here’s a copy of what I gave to Phil’s Woburn ultimate group regarding the Summer Party:

Lastly, we are allowed to play on our Tewksbury field! I’ll be there ready to play on Tuesday, July 14th.
We still play with our 175 gram Ultimate discs. Those tiny disc people take this game too seriously. They even keep score!
Those who went to the beach last Tuesday found parking. Some parked in the resident side of the main parking lot. Phil’s group mostly parked at the closed restaurants and businesses. Count on Seabrook Beach on Tuesday July 7th!!!!!!!! Weather permitting, there will be a game. Markey’s closes at 8pm. We should start earlier than 6.
Saturday, July 11th, is the summer picnic/party at Ankers Pond. Don’t plan on controlling other people, bring your own virus precautions. It will be basically the usual party… I’ll have burgers, dogs, kolbassa, condiments, paper goods, water, some soft drinks and some beer. If you can, bring salads, chips, desserts, other grill food, etc. People will trust store bought food more than homemade.
We usually start about 1pm, although, some show up days earlier. Don’t count on me to grill the food (I will get distracted and it will burn). Come expecting to get wet. If it is hot, you will want to. Think of bringing sunscreen, beach towel, dry clothes, water shoes, bug spray, sweatshirt, sparklers. We have the pallet of fireworks!!!!! We will not have the band this year, so, we will be back to an informal stage. Bring what you got! I’ll have my guitar. Dogs don’t work (too many people want to bring their own). Bring a tent to sleep in, or, find space inside the house to crash. There will be eggs and pancakes in the morning.
The “no parking” is a show stopper!
In Governor Chris Sununu’s own words on June 11th, “Sunbathing and other traditional beach activities may resume on seacoast beaches, effective immediately.” We have quite the tradition of Ultimate on the Beach. Apparently, we can play at the beach, but, we cannot go to the beach.
Of all the posted “closed” places we have been over these past months, we have only been asked to leave one. There is a lot of CYA happening, and, we have seen authorities literally look the other way. However, a blocked off parking lot is a blocked off parking lot.
I’ll be at the Pelham Disc Golf course at 6:00 pm on Tuesday June 22nd. It is officially open!
The weather looks awesome. The landscape is spacious. The germ killing UV rays will be plentiful.
Let’s begin closer to 6pm, than our traditional 6:15/6:30. That’s partly because Markeys has been closing at 8pm as of 2 weeks ago (I’ll try to update that). Phil’s Thursday night roving Woburn group will be joining us.
See you all Tuesday the 23rd of June at Seabrook Beach at 6:00.
Directions are under the “about” tab.
Ultimate with Phil’s group in Methuen, MA this Thursday June 18th, at Tenney School field at 5:45. This has been a lot of fun. Contrary to popular belief, every pass is not a “SEND IT”.
The NH beaches are now open! Tuesday, June 23rd will be a beach night! Phil will bring along his following, so, we will have enough players. Markey’s too!
Keep Saturday July 11th on your calendar for our summer Beach Party! Can’t wait to socialize with everyone. It will be the usual format.
Disc Golf at Muldoon Park in Pelham, Tuesday, June9th, at 6pm.
Ultimate with Phil’s group in Methuen, MA this Thursday June 11th, at Tenney School field at 5:45. This has been a lot of fun. It fulfills the inner need for ultimate.
Keep Saturday July 11th on your calendar for our summer Beach Party! The pond and zip line are in fine shape and getting a lot of use. Can’t wait to socialize with everyone.
As a group, we do not have a quorum of Ultimate players. If you want to play Ultimate, Phil’s Thursday evening “Woburn” league is playing at Soule school’s field in Salem, NH. You know many of the players, and, we’ve had a blast playing and socializing with them. Game starts at 5:45. Ask Phil or I if you want more information.
Us, “MVUF Tuesday Evening Pickup”, will continue disc golf on Tuesday evenings at 6 pm. We’ll stick with Muldoon Park on Mammoth Rd in Pelham, NH, but, we can play at other courses, too.
Disc golf is a great way to socialize (at a distance if you wish) and practice your throws. Watch out. I’ve learned 5 new throws! 4 of which involve trees. For the record, last Tuesday, the non-pinnies won the 18th basket.
